Celtic pagans in war?
would you paint yourselves in woad and make an animal sacrifice before you go into battle and your force to attend mass in the army so what would you do about thatits something which i wonderd since i found out your religion wasn't dead
im just learning im not trying to make fun of your religion
okay the sacrafice is silly and i didnt mean a human one and animal one like the muslim do before a pillgramige to mekka
MT K i live in wales and i was born there and you are lieing
i did know there where sects so i think id be talking about the britons ones
I haven't met anyone who makes animal sacrifices these days in the so called 'Celtic' lands, nor by the so called 'Celtic' people.
Woad, people do use so I'm told, but usually for re-enactments. Or they use face paint that resembles woad, which is easier.
I've been to re-enactments, and I'm fairly sure it was face paint and not woad.
Woad is used for dyeing fabric and wool too.
I'm unsure which religion you are referring to though, and which country/countries, and groups of people. There isn't only one 'Celtic Pagan' religion. Nor do people considered to be 'Celtic' all do the same things.
Addendum: Most of what you are referring to is from the Iron Age Britons, and not modern Britons. Except the 'Mass', which is Christian. So no, we aren't Iron Age Britons, so we don't do what they did. Nor are any of us, including archeologists, and ancient historians in agreement, with what Britons did in the Iron Age. Some things remain a mystery, through lack of evidence; and some things are in hot dispute. Much of what you hear could be propaganda to push a modern idea or ideal of the 'Celts'. Or is a modern idea, looking back at the Iron Age Britons, and putting modern ideas onto them.
A lot of pagan practices are still done within the Catholic Church, and Church of England and Wales; and by Christians in the British Isles; though I am sure most people would not consider themselves pagans because of that. Many pagans practice their religion, spirituality on their own, solitary practice.
The British Military does paint themselves still, eg. camouflage. It does look intimidating! I used to live by Salisbury Plain/Stonehenge where they practice. I doubt they'd sacrifice any living being before going into battle, and there is 'freedom of religion' in Britain now.
But, that does not include being able to harm animals in the name of your religion, god, spiritual beliefs. 'Animal sacrifice'relates to Iron Age 'Celts'. Again, Mass is not pagan

Irish Magic and Tuatha De Danaans List Price: $1.00 |
|
By far the most interesting of the peoples that formerly inhabited Ireland were the Tuaths, or Tuatha de Danaans, or Dananns. There is much mystery about them in Irish traditions. They were men, gods, or fairies. They came, of course, from the East, calling in at Greece on the way, so as to increase their stock of magic and wisdom. Some trace them to the tribes of Dan, and note Dedan in Ezek. xxv. 13. In their invasion of Ireland, Tuaths had to deal with the dark aborigines, known as the Firbolgs, and are said to have slain 100,000 at the battle of Magh-Tuireadh Conga. Driven off the island by their foes, they travelled in the East, returning from their exile as finished magicians and genuine Druids... |
