How does one explain the similarities between Pagan Practice and Christian?

Here is just one of the similarities i see. One in the Catholic and Orthodox beliefs we have Saints which are assigned for different purposes such as the Pagans had there God for fertility and war and for the Weather and just about every purpose in life. Their Children were named after the Gods and prayers and sacrifices were done for the Gods. And i'm willing to bet they had numerous miracles they believed were done by there Gods. They had there Human in the Flesh Gods such as the Romans Nero. There are other similarities but i just want to read hopefully intelligent answers with out all the finger pointing and name calling. Thank you..

Because Catholicism consolidated many pagan beliefs into itself to ease the transition of the Roman Empire from pagan to Christian. If there are similarities, it is easier for the people to accept, therefore avoiding civil unrest or even civil war between Christians and those who wanted to remain with their pagan beliefs.
