Handfasting question for Wiccans/Pagans?

One of my friends is Pagan and is having a traditional handfasting ceremony. I'm Catholic and don't know much about Wicca/paganism. Although we are of quite different religions we get along very well. Neither of us is interested in converting/berating the other.
From what I understand it is similar to a trial marriage period (they are waiting 1 year minus a day for it to be permanent if they so desire). What happens at the ceremony, what do I wear, do I have to do anything special? I know pretty much nothing about this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Oops, I meant to say a year plus a day, not a year minus a day.

A year and a day handfasting is a spiritual wedding. It is binding in all ways that a marriage is and is commonly used to wed a couple that must wait for some legal reason to be legally wed. Ask your friend what would be appropriate to wear. The dress code can be formal to casual or anything in between. You will not need to do anything but witness the joining. Usually only the couple and the priest(ess) are allowed to be actual participants but if there is anything you should take part in it should be explained to you ahaed of time. Often the newly weds will jump a broom as the audience throws bird seed or wild flower seeds over their heads.
Feel free to contact me for more details and meanings.
